Materials
We have fiction and nonfiction books for all ages, and we are constantly adding new titles. Please recommend titles you are interested in at the front desk. You can even suggest a purchase by using this online form. We love to hear from you! We also have collections of audiobooks on CD and Playaways, an ever-growing collection of downloadable audiobooks, of educational and recreational videos on DVD, including a growing collection of independent films, magazines and newspapers, large print books, reference books, and a local history collection housed in the Hebert Family NH Room. You can even borrow music CDs! Most recently, eBooks have been added to our online services. Visit our eBook services homepage to find out more about this service.
Museum Passes [Brochure]
If you have a library card with us, you can check out free and/or discounted passes to the Canterbury Shaker Village Museum, NH Historical Society, Christa McAuliffe Planetarium, Currier Gallery of Art, MHA Millyard Museum, SEE Science Center, The Seacoast Science Center, and The Fells. You can even reserve these passes online.
Circulation
Hooksett residents and individuals who are employed in Hooksett are eligible for a free library card. You can also use your active Hooksett Public Library Card at the Manchester City Library, Bedford Public Library, Goffstown Public Library, Amherst Town Library, Wadleigh Memorial Library (Milford), Derry Public Library, Merrimack Public Library, Kelley Library (Salem), New England College, Southern NH University.
Inter-library Loan
If you don’t find what you’re looking for in our collection or in GMILCS, you can request the item through us. We are linked to libraries throughout the State for interlibrary loan and resource sharing.
Online reference tools
If you have research projects and homework, we have the answer through our suite of online reference tools which are available in the library or remotely with your library card. These resources provide access to full-text magazine and newspaper articles, encyclopedias, business and literary information, and practice standardized tests (SAT, etc.).
Youth Programs
Our ongoing youth programs include Story Hours for 3-6 year olds (Storyhour homepage), Toddler Time for under-3 year olds, a YA/Teen book discussions (YA/Teen homepage), Video gaming nights, movie nights, and a 6 week Summer Reading Program, to mention just a few.
Adult Programs
We offer ongoing book discussions, one-on-one computer tutoring, and host the Hooksett-ites, our local senior group.
Computers
If you need internet access, we have computers with high-speed Internet access (See our internet access/use policy). These computers are loaded with productivity software to help you with your word-processing and presentation needs. Wireless access (See our wireless internet access policy) and wireless printing (in black and white copies) are also available! Bring in your laptop and hit the internet highway! Other Services
For your copying and faxing needs, we provide access to state of the art photocopy and fax equipment at a nominal fee.
Displays
We offer display space for temporary exhibitions of local art and collectibles. We invite anyone with collections to contact us about setting them up for public display in our front foyer.
Edible Book Contest
As part of the National Library Week celebration, we host an edible book contest where all entries must be book-related and made out of edible materials. Visit the homepage of our edible book contest.
Gifts and Donations
Gifts to the Hooksett Public Library are fully tax deductible and may qualify for matching funds from your employer.
The library accepts book, audiobook, music CD, DVD and video donations. Items may be added to the collection or placed in the library’s ongoing booksale at the discretion of the Director.
