Hooksett Library Role: (or...where can you find me in the library usually?)
I am the Patron Services and Technical Services Assistant. I’ll be at the front desk or in the back office. Sometimes, I’m out among the stacks, trying to find books that have gone missing.
My Reading Interests:
Graphic novels, science fiction, fantasy, nonfiction.
A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, Till We Have Faces by C. S. Lewis, The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, Kindred by Octavia Butler, Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid
What are you reading or listening to now?
I just finished Moloka’i by Alan Brennert, which is fiction loosely based on the experiences of Hansen’s disease (leprosy) patients in Hawai’i. It follows one woman from her childhood in the 1890s to the 1970s. I have been trying to work through my reading pile, so I have a random assortment of books to get to!
What HPL online resources do you use and recommend? Why?
NOVELIST PLUS. (From our website, you can navigate to this by clicking the “Reading” tab, look for the heading “Recommendations” in the dropdown menu, then clicking “NoveList Plus” in that list.) It is so helpful for finding books to read that are similar to ones I know I like, because you can go to the listing for a book and then view other books that have the same themes, settings, writing style, etc. Even if you’re not quite sure WHAT it was you liked about a book, NoveList can help you find something else that is just as good.
Any words of advice for people using Libby or cloudLibrary for the first time?
Don’t hesitate to play around and click on everything. Really. Click on random lists, click on random items, go to your profile and set your preferences, just see what there is! Don’t just do the same thing every time you use the app, but actually get to know it and what it can do. And remember we are always here to work with you if you have any questions!
