Thank you for your patience as we navigate this new process! Here’s how it will work [Printable Cheatsheet]:
STEP 1: REQUEST YOUR ITEMS.
You will place holds as before, by logging in to your account online, searching/browsing the catalog, and placing your hold request(s). You may also request items by phone at 485-6092 during pickup hours, or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please place requests by 2:00pm on the day before you wish to pick up your items.
STEP 2: WAIT TO BE CONTACTED
When your items are ready, you will receive a phone call from us to schedule an appointment for pickup.
STEP 3: YOUR PORCH PICKUP APPOINTMENT.
When you arrive at the library please call 485-6092 or text 661-466-5738 (661-HOOKSET) to let us know you’ve arrived. We will check out your items and place them on the table on the porch for you.
Please maintain social distancing by allowing others access to the full porch: a specific window of time per patron ensures this is possible. If arriving early, please wait in your vehicle or at a distance; if arriving past the appointment time frame, we understand, but please contact the library to find another opportunity for retrieving items on hold.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When should I return my items?
All library materials will become due throughout the month of June. Please see your online account for due dates, and no fines will accrue. The book drop is open as of June 9th.
How will returning items work?
All returned library materials will be quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours. Only after quarantine will they be checked in – so please do not worry if they still appear in your online account for several days.
You can return items in the drop box when you arrive for porch pickup.
If you have LEGO kits to return, please contact the library to schedule an appointment to drop them off.
Can I grab something new while I’m at the library?
No, the library remains closed to the public at this time. Also, due to limited staffing to maintain social distancing, we are unable to fulfill same-day requests at this time. Requests must be placed by 2pm each day to be eligible for the following day's pickup appointments. As such, if you place additional requests after your appointment has been made, you will then be called to make a separate appointment for those additional items (which will be on the following day at the earliest).
How can I find out if my holds are ready?
Library staff will contact you via phone to let you know your items are ready. At that time, you may schedule a pickup appointment.
How do I place holds on items?
Please see here for instructions on placing a hold online. If you have difficulty logging in, connect with us via our live chat service, email email@example.com, or call 485-6092 during our porch pickup hours.
Remember – we will let you know when the items are ready for you to schedule porch pickup. Please place requests by 2:00pm on the day before you wish to pick up your items.
I don’t have a library card! Can I use this service?
Please see here for instructions on signing up for a library card remotely.
Can I request items from other libraries?
No, we are not receiving items from GMILCS or other libraries at this time.
Can I request additional items after I reserve my pickup time?
No, but you can call us to schedule the next available appointment.
How long will you offer this service?
Until further notice. Since our service levels are determined based on a number of public health factors, we do not know when our services, or our hours, will change. Please check our website at hooksettlibrary.org for updates.
What safety precautions is the library taking?
Library staff members are required to wear masks in the building, maintain social distancing, and have been assigned individual roles on teams to maximize staff safety and ensure continuity of service. Disinfection and quarantine protocols are ongoing.
Are you accepting donations?
We are accepting donations, but please contact the library before dropping off your donations so that we can arrange the best way to receive them: Email: firstname.lastname@example.org | Tel: 485.6092 | Text: 661-466-5738 (661-HOOKSET). Note that donations must be in gently used condition, free of mildew and mold. Thank you!
