On Friday into Saturday morning, August 2-3, the Library sustained considerable flooding during a roof replacement project. Rain water leaked through the roof where roof work was in progress and affected both the upper and lower floors of the building. In the wake of this flooding incident, we have been hard at work with remediation and restoration planning in the flood affected areas of the building. Fortunately, insurance will cover the cost of the substantial recovery work. 

To minimize the negative impact of this incident on our services to our patrons, we’ve launched a Grab & Go service in the lower level of the Library. We have also been able to relocate popular resources, including some curated browsing collections, to a staging area in the Village Depot Room for browsing. 

During our recently adjusted open hours (Mon-Thu: 9-7pm | Fri: 9-5pm | Sat: 9-3pm), Library patrons can...

• ...BROWSE and BORROW from the carefully curated collections on display in the Village Depot Room (lower level), featuring popular and new titles for both adults and children, LoTs, Playaways and more!
• ...REQUEST materials and PICK UP held items either from the Smart Lockers or in person at the relocated patron services desk.
• ...COPY documents and PRINT (with our Princh wireless printing service).
• ...PICK UP Take & Make crafts.
• …ACCESS online services, such as our discount passes, digital materials and resources.

Although we understandably had to suspend room bookings and cancel IN-PERSON on-campus events during the remediation and restoration process through October, we’ve scheduled some virtual events which can be explored at hooksettlibrary.libcal.com. Where possible, some IN-PERSON events for adults and children may occur off-campus, so please stay tuned at discover.hooksettlibrary.org.
